Through my art, I have tried to express what has meant the most to me…the beauty, impressions, and glory of nature. My subjects are taken from personal experiences, painted in oils, acrylics, water color, and pastel, and the work is focused on landscape, still life, portraiture, and animals, whose lives are now threatened in many ways. A knowledge of natural light, most beautifully expressed in Dutch painting of the 17th Century, and the expression of emotion through color, exemplified through the work of Vincent Van Gogh and the French fauvists, have guided me in my efforts.
I received a Master’s of Fine Arts with honors from American University, and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Washington and Lee University as a Bachelor of Arts. From 1965-2014, I taught painting and drawing at St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., also serving for fifteen years as Chairman of the Visual Arts Department.
